Quarters matters in college because playbooks are full of QB run and RPO.
One-high coverages (Cover 3/1) defend normal runs fine, but a running QB
turns the RB into an extra gap and you're minus-one. Quarters keeps you
gapped out — nine-man spacing — because both safeties descend into the
fit. The price: no middle help; corners and safeties live on an island, and
stock quarters can give up the one-play score at any moment.
Coverage selection rule: pocket passer → Cover 3 match / 6 / 9 with a
deep safety. Running QB → quarters (or cover zero). Match > pure zone in
this game generally — zone AI can't replicate real vision, and match keeps
leverage on whatever distribution shows.
